Advertising Policy

The Middletown Gazette is not responsible for the content of any advertisement nor does it endorse any advertiser or product by allowing the advertisement. Advertisements must be suitable for a general audience. Advertisements of an adult nature must be worded appropriately (so a minor who doesn't already know what you are talking about will not know). It is the policy of the Middletown Gazette to respect the free speech of all lawful advertisers without regard to our own editorial position on the product, advertiser or ideas presented. The Middletown Gazette does not, however, agree with any requirement that forces such a policy. Freedom of the press is the right to publish yourself, not the right to force someone else to publish for you. Therefore, no advertisements will be allowed on the Home Page which would be contrary to the Middletown Gazette's desired public image. This policy shall not be construed as waiving the right of the Middletown Gazette to refuse any advertiser for any reason not disallowed by law. If the Middletown Gazette receives credible information that there is a problem with an ad, we will work with the advertiser to change the ad or pull it with a refund for the remaining time. If, in the opinion of the Middletown Gazette, an advertiser knowingly places a fraudulent ad or we receive credible information that the advertiser is using the ad as part of fraudulent or other criminal activity, the ad will be pulled and no refund given. If the accusation is later proved false, a refund will be given for ad time not used. By advertising in the Middletown Gazette, the advertiser agrees to the content of this paragraph and agrees to not hold the Middletown Gazette, its owner or its employees otherwise responsible in these matters. The advertiser also affirms that the advertisement is truthful and in compliance with all applicable laws and accepts all responsibility for ensuring that it remains so. It is the responsibility of the advertiser to check the ad when it is first uploaded to verify its accuracy. Uploads are typically conducted on Friday afternoons.

The owner of the Middletown Gazette does not currently consider it a suitable venue for legal notices and they will not be accepted.

The Middletown Gazette reserves the right to make exceptions to its policies, of a nature and duration at the sole discretion of the Middletown Gazette. Such exceptions do not constitute a waiver of the rights of the Middletown Gazette.

Advertising will typically be sold in 4 week blocks with a week running from Friday afternoon to Friday afternoon. A six month ad will be for 26 weeks and one year will be 52 weeks. Unless otherwise specified, ads will be positioned as spacing permits and at the discretion of the Middletown Gazette. Advertising sales are final. No refunds for cancellations not initiated by the Middletown Gazette. There is a $5 fee for changing an ad. This will normally be waived unless it becomes a problem.

Placing an Advertisement

The easiest way to place an ad is to e-mail me with your contact info, length of time you want the ad for, any particulars like the page you want it on or web address you wish to link to, and attach the ad as an appropriately sized jpeg image. I will e-mail you an invoice and I will place the ad when I get your check. I am working on setting up electronic payment as soon as possible. Return here for details.

For classified ads and directory entries I obviously don't need an image, just the information. Bulletins and calendar events are also self explanatory. For business card ads, mail me your card or e-mail me a scan of the card. You will need to contact me to discuss a floating ad.

I can make an ad for you but do not have much in the way of resources or time to do so. A 6 month ad buy makes me more willing to do so than a 1 month buy.

With the exception of classifieds and some directory listings, ads are placed as images (preferably jpeg) to ease placement and accuracy. I have some capability to convert document files to images. Show me what you have in an e-mail and I will show you what I can do with it. No extra charge for simple work.

Classified Ads

July 22, 2013

Price is $5.00 for placement plus a weekly charge of ¢20 per line (as the ad appears on my computer with the Google Chrome browser. Every browser uses its own rules so the number of lines may appear differently with different browsers. Generally not a problem but it can happen.) Classified ads can be placed for any number of weeks, not limited to 4 week blocks. The advertiser is responsible for checking the accuracy of the ad. Errors in ads will be corrected as soon as reasonably possible, regardless of who was responsible. There is a $5.00 fee for changes to ads which will be waived for correcting errors and small changes.

Ads must be received by Monday morning to be included in Friday upload. E-mail me the ad and I will check it and e-mail you a price. No capacity for electronic payments yet so support your local post office by mailing me a check.

Ads are in standard text, regular size font or large, option for bold or italic, left justified or centered, regular characters only, with a single header line. See example on the Classifieds page.

Free classified ad (up to $15.00 value or as credit on longer ad) once per calendar year for members.

No links allowed.

The Middletown Gazette reserves the right to reject any ad for any reason or no reason, subject to legal requirements.

The owner of the Middletown Gazette does not currently consider it a suitable venue for legal notices and they will not be accepted.

Membership

July 22, 2013

The Middletown Gazette cannot function on advertising dollars alone. I need to be able to support myself, support the site and pay for columns and freelance stories so this thing will be worth reading. Also, it is easier to get the advertising money if I can say, Look at all the people willing to be members! Send me $15.00 and your contact information (mailing address or e-mail) for a one year membership as a supporter of the Middletown Gazette. As a supporter of the Middletown Gazette, you will get special perks. Right now that means a free classified ad but more will come. Check the privacy statement for what you will not receive. You can find the contact information for the Middletown Gazette in the blue footer section at the bottom of any web page.

Privacy Statement

July 22, 2013

The Middletown Gazette will not compile and sell or trade the contact information provided by its members or such information provided by advertisers which is not part of the advertisement, nor will you be subjected to third party offers of credit cards or insurance or other such things. Such information will only be provided to third parties for Middletown Gazette use, such as having a printer do the mailing for me.

The Middletown Gazette uses GoDaddy.com for its website, Google for its e-mail, and Google Analytics for tracking site visits. Their policies are their own. I made no special arrangements to add or detract from a standard relationship with them when I signed up. As for the NSA, Chinese Military, Illuminati or Grays (little green men who are gray) - well, you takes your chances.
